Francesco Lorenzi

I did my Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics of Matter, completed in September 2025. During the Ph.D. I worked on matter-wave solitons, nonlinear phenomena in Bose-Einstein condensates such as Josephson oscillations, and quantum scattering theory for ultracold atomic collisions.

Academic experience and education

  • Postdoctoral researcher, Department of Information Engineering, University of Padova. Current work on photonics, electromagnetics, nonlinear wave propagation, and realistic simulations for optical communications.
  • Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics of Matter, University of Padova, completed in September 2025. Thesis: Nonlinear physics of ultracold quantum gases and optical fields in media.
  • M.Sc. thesis, Nonlinear noise in WDM systems: study of classical and quantum channel interaction and capacity, September 2022. PDF.
  • B.Sc. thesis, Dispersione cromatica e non linearita in fibra ottica, un’analisi simulativa. PDF.

Other interests

My personal interests include mathematics, especially analysis and geometry, philosophy of science, RF and microwave electronics, and music.

Over the years I built an electronics lab, and lately I got the amateur radio operator license with callsign IU3UHF. I collect some weekend experiments on www.qsl.net/iu3uhf/.
